What are the current strategies for management of ASR?

Resistant Varieties: All commercial soybean varieties currently available are susceptible to ASR. Current research includes screening germplasm for resistance, and resistant varieties are expected to be a successful long-term solution for ASR. Resistant commercial soybean varieties are still several years away.

Foliar Fungicides: Proper application of an appropriate fungicide has been shown to effectively manage ASR. Early detection of the disease is required for the most effective management. Fungicide applications may reduce yield losses, depending on the plant developmental stage, time when ASR is first detected, and fungicide application method. Several fungicides are registered in the United States for use on soybeans, and Section 18 fungicides are currently being activated at the state level.
