What is the Illinois Sentinel Plot system?

About 40 Sentinel plots have been established in Illinois. The counties in which these plots are located are indicated by color coding. Each week these plots are scouted for the presence of ASR, and the data are entered on the USDA-APHIS site (shown on the left of the page). The local Illinois and the national USDA maps will help producers track the disease and will enable management decisions to be made based on the movement and presence of the pathogen.

Soybean rust alerts for Illinois are updated twice weekly. Alerts for Illinois and 30 other soybean production states can be viewed at http://www.sbrusa.net.

What is the USDA-APHIS Sentinel Plot system?

The USDA-APHIS has established a monitoring framework to track the movement of ASR. All soybean production states are participating and have established sentinel plots that will be intensively monitored during 2005. As data from all sentinel plots are reported, you will be able to see where ASR is moving. Also, you will be able to access both national and state level ASR Alerts that will be updated daily.
